Statement of the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition asking Governor and legislative leaders to meet as soon as possible to bring climate, energy, and equitable jobs bill across the finish line.

The Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition urges Governor JB Pritzker, Senate President Don Harmon and House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch to meet as soon as possible to bring an agreed upon climate, energy, and equitable jobs bill across the finish line for a vote in both chambers on Tuesday, August 31.

“Recent talks have made substantial progress, but it will take a meeting of these three leaders to produce a bill that reins in fossil fuels, combats climate change, and makes sure the jobs and wealth created by a surge of clean energy jobs will be shared across our state, especially in Black and Brown communities which are often the first to suffer the negative consequences of pollution but the last to reap the health and economic benefits of a clean energy future.

“Without urgent action, thousands of union workers and solar installers may now lose their jobs, while the climate crisis worsens.”
