AURORA, IL – Tonight, the City of Aurora passed a comprehensive ordinance to regulate data center development and protect residents, local resources, and the environment. In response, the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition released the following statement:
“The Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition applauds the City of Aurora for setting the bar high – this ordinance ensures accountability and enacts important protections for data centers’ energy and water use, efficiency, and community benefits. Unfortunately, these protections are not uniform statewide. Just last week, the City of Joliet approved what will be the largest data center in Illinois. Every community across the state deserves protections that make Big Tech pay their fair share, protect our water, and keep pollution out of vulnerable communities. The POWER Act (SB4016/HB5513) does just that, and we urge lawmakers to pass it this spring.”
