Stop the Trump Rate Hike
The largest increase in electricity costs in IL history
Trump appointees to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission recently changed the rules governing how states acquire electricity to prop-up more expensive and dirtier fossil fuel generation.
This decision will both undermine states' abilities to make their own energy decisions and lead to higher customer bills and more pollution.
The FERC order will prevent the City of Chicago from achieving its commitment of 100% renewable energy by 2035 and disrupt Governor Pritzker’s commitment to 100% renewable energy by 2050 in Illinois.
According to Citizens Utility Board (CUB), ComEd customers would see future rate hikes that would increase bills by up to $500 million a year—and that’s a conservative estimate.
The Clean Energy Jobs Act would stop this rate hike
The Illinois General Assembly can prevent this rate hike, give Illinois control of our energy future, and prioritize carbon-free electricity by passing the Clean Energy Jobs Act (HB 3624 / SB 2321).

The Clean Energy Jobs Act (CEJA) is the only viable alternative to the proposed Trump rate hike. Instead of raising rates, CEJA:
- Guarantees hundreds of millions of dollars per year in consumer savings across Northern Illinois,
- Funds renewable energy, transportation, decarbonization and energy efficiency programs, and
- Creates thousands of good clean energy jobs.
What Others Are Saying About the FERC Order
"Unfair and punitive to the ratepayers in states that have established renewable policies."
- ILLINOIS ATTORNEY GENERAL
"Bad for renewable energy, bad for states and bad for customers. While cities and states are rapidly expanding their clean energy goals, FERC is constructing barriers that make it more difficult and expensive to choose renewable resources...this action is misguided and does a disservice to states that are listening to their constituents's demands for clean energy."
- SOLAR ENERGY INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION (SEIA)
"Pursuing a counter-productive crusade against the states" and a "direct attack on the states' resource decision making"
- ILLINOIS COMMERCE COMMISSION
"Threatens states' rights and hinders their ability to bring more clean energy to their communities."
- EDF Renewables
"Punishes consumer preference and states' lawful decision-making regarding [electricity] generation resources by artificially inflating capacity prices and keeping certain new and existing resources from clearing in the capacity market."
- Organization of PJM States (OPSI)
