4/14/17 – Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition statement on results of MISO capacity auction

“Today’s auction results are proof that coal’s economic problems are driven by market forces, not environmental regulations. Cost-saving energy efficiency and the significant drop in the cost of renewable energy out-compete fossil fuels in the marketplace. Lower electric rates and less pollution in Ameren’s service territory will benefit all downstate consumers and businesses while improving public health in the region.

“The market spoke today and said coal is a relic of the past. Now is the time to begin planning for new investments and jobs in Central and Southern Illinois in cleaner technologies like energy efficiency, wind and solar energy that grow cheaper by the day and improve public health.”
